Beijing 2022

4 February 2022, Today’s opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games takes place today in the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing city. The ceremony that marks the opening of the Games which will run from the 4 – 20 February 2022, will be held at the same venue that hosted the ceremonies and athletics events for the Summer Olympics in 2008. Team Ireland, led by flagbearers Brendan Newby and Elsa Desmond, will be marching into the stadium as the 65th nation in the athlete’s parade, with proceedings starting at 8pm local time, which is noon in Ireland! The opening ceremony will be broadcast live by RTÉ.

Getting back to skiing and Snow camps

During the Summer months skiers were able to get back to camps. In July/August Head Coach organised Alpine training in Stelvio Italy and in September he came to Dublin to train youth and children. Two skiers Alex Ainsworth and Isobel Ainsworth attended the FIS Development Cross Country Camp in Val di Fiemme, Italy.. Next week a group will train and compete in the Lowland Championships in Netherlands and Germany.

FIS World Alpine Ski Championships - Cortina d'Ampezzo

Following a spectacular week of Skiing from the Top World athletes, the FIS World Alpine Ski Championships in Cortina has come to an end. Ireland's Alpine Skiers - Tess Arbez, Alec Scott and Cormac Comerford performed very well in very difficult icy conditions, with a personal best for Cormac Comerford in today's Men's Slalom race finishing 23rd position.

FIS World Cross Country Championships - Oberstdorf

The FIS World Cross Country Championships in Oberstdorf Germany gets under way this week.

Ireland's National Championships - San Vigilio-Kronplatz

Due to Covd-19 restrictions in place for the coming week, the National Championships planned to take place in San Vigilio-Kronplatz ITA will be postponed, possible new date are mid-March.

OFI EGM - 8th December 2020

Robert Norwood was elected as 2nd Vice President to the Board of the Olympic Federation of Ireland until 2024.

VIRTUAL YOUTH FESTIVAL

The UTS Virtual Youth Festival 2020 came to life as an opportunity during the Covid-19 pandemic for youth from all over the world to engage in friendly, sport for all competitions whilst also gaining access to crucial education via a union of leading international organisations. The location for this youth festival is on the digital platform, where youth participants simply need a recording devise such as a mobile phone and access to WIFI in order to participate. The athletes nominated to represent Ireland are: Amelia Allen and Daniel Clarke.

FIS Development Alpine Training Camp South America, El Colorado (CHI)

Alpine Skiers, Gloria Lyons and Alex Ainsworth will head off to Chile for the FIS Alpine Training Camp (7th - 27th July 2019).
